Operators expect a gaming license to come with a time limit. However, the new law in Mozambique, signed last week by President Armando Guebuza (l.), while promoting more gaming development, also allows the government to take over a casino—and all its contents and associated businesses, with no compensation to the operator—when the license expires.

A Canadian man is encouraged by an out of court settlement made by the Quebec Lottery in a class action lawsuit brought by thousands who say the state is responsible for their gambling addiction. Halifax, Nova Scotia man Bernie Walsh hopes this will help him in his lawsuit against Atlantic Lottery Corp., Nova Scotia Gaming Corp., the Nova Scotia Alcohol and Gaming Authority.
